A good night’s sleep - with Spa Ceylon

We all love sleep! Sleep is a relaxing, restful luxury that soothes the senses, calms the mind and heals the body. Yet, getting a good night’s sleep sometimes eludes most of us in this era of rushed modern urban lifestyles. Daily stress, the uncertainty of tomorrow, the internet, that great movie on cable or the agony of a break up – all these & more - keep us up at night. That’s why a good night’s sleep is becoming more and more a luxurious indulgence!

If you are one of those finding it difficult to get a good night’s sleep, a good bed-time routine certainly does help you to get to sleep faster & also to sleep well for longer. It is a part of what health professionals term as “sleep hygiene” and helps you to prepare psychologically & physically for sleep. A routine is a way of ordering simple daily tasks & behavioral patterns into a meaningful sequence. If you have great difficulty in establishing such a routine, it is best to seek help.

Good Sleep Hygiene Habits
Try to establish sleep hygiene habits that suit you and your needs. The following list of tips may help you:

  • Avoid caffeine, tobacco and alcohol late in the day.
  • Eat the last meal of the day at least 2 hours before bedtime.
  • Cut down or avoid fluids at least an hour before bedtime.
  • Avoid stimulating environments after sunset.
  • Engage in exercise but avoid vigorous activity too close to bedtime.
  • Don’t watch television in bed.
  • Establish a bedtime routine
  • Create a bedroom environment that enhances sleep.
  • Go to bed only if you are sleepy.
  • Don’t worry in bed; try to think relaxing thoughts.
  • If you can’t get to sleep within 15-20 minutes, get out of bed and do a quiet activity until you’re sleepy.
  • Get up at the same time every day.
  • Avoid day time naps.
  • Take a warm relaxing bath or shower before bed time.
  • Give yourself time to relax before retiring and use relaxation techniques.

Relaxation Techniques
Relaxation is an important part of preparing for sleep, but there is no best way – you must choose what suits you. There are many forms of relaxation therapy & most are easy for you to do yourself. Progressive muscle relaxation is one useful technique, where you tense and then relax different muscle groups in turn. Some people find listening to soothing music or relaxation tapes helpful.  A long warm bath or shower with relaxing aroma oils before bed-time also helps you unwind, so that your mind & body are at ease, helping you to drift-off to sleep faster.

Royal Hair Rituals by Spa Ceylon

Women of the Royal courts of our Indian sub-continent were especially renowned for their dark, thick and lustrous locks, emphasizing how we have always treasured glowing beautiful hair as an integral sign of an individual’s health & beauty.

In fact, they are said to have hand blended fresh plants, fruits and herbs and applied them directly to their hair for centuries. Ancient Ayurveda texts contain numerous references to treatments, rinses, lotions, infusions & pastes for beautifying, strengthening and improving hair health.  Today Spa Ceylon Ayurveda captures these traditional practices in their range of luxuriously indulgent aromatic natural formulae, delivering a royal pampering experience for your hair & scalp.

Head Massage
In addition to pampering, Ayurveda head massage affects not only the immediate areas massaged; it is a healing, rejuvenating and thoroughly stimulating experience as well. These rituals not only cover your head, but also the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp & face too. In much the same way that Traditional Chinese Medicine dictates that certain points on the feet are directly aligned to internal organs, Ayurveda texts relate certain parts of the head to other body parts and symptoms or diseases. Extending from 30 to 60 minutes, Ayurveda head massages are also great to improve hair growth, reduce hair loss & condition hair, as well as calm & soothe the nervous system, as hair roots are connected to nerve fibers.

The choice of oil plays a very important role in any head massage.  Traditional Ayurveda formulations of scalp & hair treatment oils help to cool, soothe, nourish & treat a range of scalp, hair & health problems, while Aromaveda scalp massage oils blended with natural essential oils help to calm, relax & balance your senses as well as soften, nourish & fragrance your hair. The choice of oils should be according to your dosha type and your hair & scalp needs. Choose from cooling Aloe Vera Water grass, soothing Neroli Jasmine or warming Sandalwood Vetiver to enjoy a greatly relaxing head & scalp massage.

Hair Fragrance
Wearing fragrant flowers for special occasions and scenting the hair with incense while it is being dried are traditions that have been practiced by Indian womenfolk to perfume their hair for centuries.  Burning charcoal mixed with frankincense was the ancient equivalent of a hair dryer - it helped with drying the hair, imparting fragrance & preventing hair problems.  Luxurious pampering from a bygone era, the ritual of hair fragrance is adapted to modern lifestyles with Spa Ceylon’s easy absorbent light hair oil mists finely perfumed with essential oils - to pamper & protect.

Spa Ceylon Hair Care
Spa Ceylon’s hair spa range is enriched with 100% natural Ayurveda herbs & pure organic essential oils to restore scalp & hair balance. Formulated in 3dosha specific variants - Neroli Jasmine (Vaatha), Aloe Vera Water grass (Piththa) & Sandalwood Vetiver (Kapha). Choose from Scalp & Hair Cleansers, Hair Conditioners, Scalp & Hair Treatment Oils, Scalp Massage Oils & Hair Oil Mists - to treat soothe calm & balance your body, mind & soul.
